JOY will come with the morning
I know because I've already seen it
“Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.”
Tomorrow morning, it will be a new year! Will joy be there to greet you?
I can say for sure, yes, because since January 1st of 2025, I have engaged in a daily practice of writing down “one good thing” from the previous day’s doings. Most are one sentence or less — just something that’s inserted a bit of delight in my day. Along the way, I’ve discovered that almost all of them involve people… something said, a kindness done, an encouragement shared.
So, tomorrow, on New Year’s Day, I’ll dump out 365 or so slips of paper and re-read each one, remembering the moments that inserted goodness into my world.
So, yes, joy is waiting for me on the morrow. And it has me grinning already.

Earlier this year, I shared with a friend that I had been recording “good things” to be re-visited in the new year, and she observed, “I wonder what they’ll show you?”
I wonder, too.
And yet…
They’ve already shown me this: one who looks for joy finds it.
We can hope that our tomorrows will be filled with joyful things, but hope without substance is often disappointed. This is why yesterday’s joys are such a gift. They remind us that joy will be with us in our tomorrows…
If we go looking, we won’t miss them.
Just the thought of that makes me want to clap for myself.
If 2025 has taught me anything, it’s that JOY is something we can find every day. Drinking it in is nourishment for the journey. And sipping it daily is nectar for the soul.
Happy New Year friends.
